成人式 | coming of age ceremony

January 11, 2016 was a "Coming of Age Day" in Japan.
A big ceremony is held on the 2nd Monday of January every year to celebrate and encourage all of those who reached the age of 20, considered as a matured adult in Japan.
It is a similar ceremony to bar & bat mitzvah among Jewish and others.

At coming of age ceremony "seijin shiki", boys usually wear suits, but girls wear "furisode", a special Japanese traditional wear.


It's different from kimono - furisode has long sleeves and is worn by unmarried women.

My "seijin shiki" was in January 2013, but I couldn't go to the venue because of heavy snow.
